Introduction

The proposal made by the Deputy Ambassador for Germany in Sri Lanka Dr. Hans Von Bothmer resulted in the formation of Sri Lanka - Germany Business Council and Mr. R Sivaratnam, Chairman and Managing Director, Aitken Spence & Co. Ltd., was appointed as the 1st President of the Council.

The Council continues to develop new initiatives and areas of coorporation between business communities of the two countries with the exchange of trade missions, delegations, new investments and joint ventures.

Government Cooperation

To co-operate with the Government of Sri Lanka.

Joint Meetings

To conduct joint meetings with German business organisations.

Conducive Initiatives

To undertake all matters that are incidental or conducive.

About Sri Lanka

Location, Geography & Climate

Sri Lanka, an island in the Indian Ocean, lies south of India, covering 65,610 sq. km. It features diverse landscapes, including mountains exceeding 2,500m, broad plains, and palm-fringed beaches. The tropical climate keeps coastal temperatures around 27°C, while higher elevations can drop to 16°C. The island experiences two monsoon seasons: the southwest monsoon (May-July) and the northeast monsoon (December-January), but remains warm and sunny year-round.

Location, Geography & Climate

Germany, located in Central Europe, covers an area of 357,022 sq. km. The country features diverse landscapes, including mountains in the south, flat plains in the north, and dense forests in the central region. The North Sea and Baltic Sea shape its northern coastline. Germany has a temperate climate with warm summers and cold winters, with temperatures ranging from -5°C in winter to 25°C in summer. Rainfall occurs year-round, with higher precipitation in the west and south, and snowfall in mountainous areas.
